In kerststemming / In Christmas mood

Just before the Advent time started, I got a package in the mail from a sweet blog friend, Birgit (of http://biwubaer.blogspot.nl/ ), she is the spiritual Mom of my miniature snow bear, named Schepje. In these last weeks of Advent it was for both of us a feast to unpack the content, because as you may know, it's only allowed to unwrap the marked gift on every Advent Sundays. That’s something that we done neatly =O)…..so now we have two gifts to go, but these are meant for Christmas day!

From Birgit we’ve got all sorts of sweets, the most of it disappeared like snow for the sun, as we are used to say here in The Netherlands. I guess that Schepje probably will know where all the sweets has gone to ;)!

I’ve also made someone happy…..my florist of the Strelitzia flower, do you remember? I had a promise to redeem by making two Strelitzia flowers and a leaf for him too. For getting a real Christmas surprise for him, I’ve made an arrangement of the flowers, together with a bunch of dark colored branches, tied up with orange thread and a leaf of the Monstera plant in a flower pot. After that I’ve put it all in a copper colored lantern together with battery operated Christmas lights.

Well, the florist was very happy with my gift, especially because the Strelitzias are his most favorite flower. The lantern got a wonderful place in his florist shop and everyone who enters his shop, can get the whole story of this lantern!
Maurice, thank you for your generous, kind gift, thereby I could study the Strelitzia very well and make them in miniature too. Have fun with your miniature flowers!

The deer are bought of a train hobby shop, the glass dome is of Ray Storey

I’ve created for myself a miniature Christmas scene, because there will be no snow this Christmas and because I’m a real wintry person. That’s the nicest thing of making miniatures: if you can’t get something for real, you always can (try to) make it in miniature, isn’t it ;)?!
So, hier is my small winter landscape, a tiny pinewood with deer, whom I now and then (luckily enough) can see in my RL surroundings too  J!

In the meanwhile Schepje and I have decorated together our house with a Christmas tree and decorations. Last year we were so lucky for receiving a beautiful, real glass snowman bauble from Birgit and my cheerful little friend wanted to hang this bauble by himself high up in the lamp above the table…..he did made it after a long climb into the lamp and even without fear for heights ;)!

To spend some time with my family during the holidays and for making some miniature work yet, I won’t be much in the blogosphere. I’m sure that you all will understand ;).
Schepje and I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a healthy, peaceful and creative 2016!

Rozen zijn rood… / Roses are red…

…but not always ;)! Last May I've made a large bouquet of miniature roses and I thought that I already shared them with you here on my blog. So, not!

During my search on the internet for wonderful roses I found the so called Campanella roses. But after making one in miniature, it didn't totally look like the real rose, because of the large amount of petals, like those of the RL flowers. So, it was my choice to make ‘normal’ roses, but anyway I did use the three beautiful colors (pale yellow, pale pink and pale purple) of the Campanella roses :D!

While I was working, I got the idea for making a few branches of Eucalyptus for this pastel colored bouquet of roses. Unfortunately I only have these pictures of the Eucalyptus, because they were all sold on the DHN-show.

Alle rozen nog eens op een rijtje / All roses again in a row

Sterk vergrote detailfoto / Greatly enlarged picture for details

For the show I've also made a straw hat, decorated with the same roses, just in a bit more purple color.

As you can see at the pictures of the roses in May the sun was shining nicely through the windows in the living room. This coming week here, in The Netherlands, we will even get 15 degrees Celsius, says the weather forecast, okay, but…….where is winter??
Thank you for your kind comments, I wish you all a nice week J!

Harig spul / Hairy stuff

Well, Sinterklaas (see here for more information: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinterklaas ) has left our country for a whole year and the peace has returned, although .....not for my abs yet, because these still ache from laughing :D!!
All my kids were at home and we have had a ‘terrible’, nice evening together, it was even after midnight before we went to bed. We exchanged small presents of each other, we all love mostly the fun. I’ve got very nice things: the box on the above picture, it was filled with all sort of things for making new miniatures. Besides that, I also got a poster with pictures of my first miniatures show in October. That’s nice, isn’t it?!

While I've been so busy with organising the feast of Sinterklaas, I've got too less time to do anything in miniature. However, last month I still had done something and in the meantime I've finished it: a fur coat. Once, I’ve got a piece of fabric with a dessin of faux fur and together with a piece of lining fabric I’ve created a miniature lined fur coat.

The sleeves were the most difficult parts to do, because these are also lined with the lining fabric. Otherwise the mannequin couldn’t go with her arms (and especially not her splayed fingers) through the sleeves. And what can you do with a fur coat, if you can’t put it on in a cold winter ;)?!

Now we’ll have to wait for the wintery cold, but it seem the cold is far away, because here, in The Netherlands, we still have day temperatures of more than 10 degrees Celsius….
Thank you for your comments and I wish you all a nice week :D!

Pipistrellus pipistrellus

Grappige naam voor de gewone dwergvleermuis, hè?

Funny name for an ordinary dwarf bat, isn’t it?

If it is dark I see them regularly fluttering around here, because it’s than that they’re  go out hunting for food, like small bugs.
Because the miniature fair was on the day of Halloween, I thought I would have finished some little bats, but I couldn't…….that’s why I'm showing them to you now.

In my pollarded willow there was still room for a couple of dwarf bats…

…. and even for their babies. Wait, I’ll catch him for you, than you can see him better on this greatly enlarged picture ;)!

While I was looking for information on the internet I came across this cute picture of orphaned baby bats, they're wrapped in swaddling clothes.

This picture gave me the idea for also wrapping up of some bat orphans J!
All of these dwarf bats aren’t exactly in 1:12 scale, because in RL their bodies are about 4-5 cm long, so that would be 4 mm in miniature. Because this was impossible for me to realise, I gave them a body length of 6-8 mm, smaller was not possible for me.
Even now I can’t handle them well with my tweezers, they keep on fluttering to the table ;)!

The dwarf bats have yellow gray fur on their belly, while their spine side has a reddish brown color. I’ve used flock powder for this purpose, which I’ve mixed up until I got the exact colors.
The total span width of their miniature wings (when they are flying ;O) is almost 3 cm.

The last picture of my previous blog post was from the eyes of my dwarf bat, no one guessed the right answer hahaha :D!
There’s still more 'hairy' stuff on my working table, well, next time we’ll see what that will be….
I wish you all a nice week :D!

Het interieur van mijn bloemenwinkel in miniatuur / The interior of my flower shop in miniature

For the DHN-show of the end of October I needed a display for showing my miniature flowers and plants to the visitors of the fair. In the last week before the show, I've finally got the idea of what I wanted and I've made an interior of a flower shop with the looks of scaffolding wood. And because I also had plans for selling flowers per piece, this plan came nicely together. The interiors were placed in Ikea SYNAS (LED lighting) boxes, who are made of plexiglass.

By painting the wood with (water diluted) black, brown and white acrylic paint, I've got that special look of the scaffolding wood.
Unfortunately I’ve no sharp pictures of the interior, of how they all looked like after they were filled with my miniature flowers/plants on the show. But you possibly can have seen them in my blog post of November the 2nd.

Nina shows you proudly her flower shop, she was an excellent saleswoman ;)!

Lastly, pictures of my miniature flowers/plants: two blue purple anemones and a geranium
(both were sold)

Raadseltje…wat zou dit zijn? / Riddle…what could this be?

Thank you for your kind comments for my Strelitzia flowers, now I can tell you that the florist assured me that my miniature flowers were very realistic and beautiful :D! Soon he also will receive some of my miniature Strelitzia flowers……
I wish you a nice week(end) :)!!
